The Housewife's Colorado Vacation- Part 1

Did you know that, if you drive straight through, the drive from Las Vegas to Denver is about 12 hours? It doesn't seem like very long, right? That is unless you have a 2.5 and a 5 year old in the back seat. In that case, the drive can be excruciating. Luckily, my kids are pretty good road trippers. So we packed our suitcases in the back of the car, brought the cooler with lots of snacks, and hit the road for Denver.

I dont think Jack looked up from his newly-purchased PSP video game the whole time we were driving.

Ava was happy as long as she had all her Polly Pockets and mini Cinderella dolls stored and ready to go in her princess trick-or-treat bucket. She also talked my friggin ear off during the drive, but hey, what else would you expect from a 2.5 year old? We had some nice conversations.

Colorado never fails to give good face. The entire drive was stunningly beautiful, with fall colors in all their glory. My pictures don't do the scenery justice.

The weather was perfect. There was just enough crispness in the air for it to smell and feel like Fall (which we dont really get in Las Vegas), but it was warm enough to leave the jackets behind. We couldn't have asked for better weather during the whole trip. The local Colorado radio stations said it was the warmest Halloween they'd had since 2001.

By the time we broke through the foothills, we were all tired and were ready to be out of the car. But look what we were welcomed with: beautiful Denver! I grew up near this park (below), and I had no idea how good I had it....until I moved away. This is a picture of Clement Park, which neighbors Columbine High School, and I visited the Columbine Memorial while I was there. I hadn't been back to the site since the massacre happened. I was living in Colorado then, and I still hold vivid memories of that day. Stay tuned for more about the memorial, and for the details from the rest of my trip, in an upcoming blog!

You are a brave, brave woman! I can barley make the three hour trek with my nine and five year olds.

Great pictures!

Ahh, I remember doing that drive once...Emma was 8 months old and got a stomach virus and threw up the entire way. Good times! ;P
