The Housewife's (mini) Vacation Update- Day 2

As I said before, on my second day visiting them, my family took me to a charming little town just north of them called Solvang. It just happened to be "Danish Day", so when we arrived there was a parade going on full of old cars, balloons, and people. California weather is so amazing- it wasn't too hot, or too cold. There was a slight breeze, which just picked up the glorious smells that wafted out of each candy shop and restaurant. Window shopping, it was almost like we got to smell the shop before we entered.

I went all-out touristy. I looked at postcards, little trinkets, and made my brother wear funny hats so I could take his picture. I thought the Viking hat looked particularly good on him. By the way, he turns 24 this week- happy birthday, baby brother!

For lunch, we stopped at a local restaurant. We had homemade meatballs and red cabbage.

I washed my lunch down with a beer I had never tried before. My brother recommended it to me. It's a California-brewed ale called Firestone. I have one word: YUM.

I am a big beer person (in case you didn't already know), and I've tasted A LOT of beers. To give you an idea, when I was bartending, one of my bars had 120 different kind of beers. I happily tasted every single one. Even now, when I see a new beer, I buy a six pack.

Most of the beers I try aren't very good. This one, however, was spectacular. Smooth, light but not too, and flavorful. This beer comes from the Firestone family, AKA, Andrew Firestone The Bachelor (yuk yuk yuk!). Apparently, they makes beer as well as they do wine and tires.

It was a great day. We stayed as long as we felt like it. No schedules, no kids, no strollers. Just me and my shoes. I had an amazing time.

I LOVE me some Firestone! I'll be in SB next week. Hope the weather is just as nice for us!

Oh, and speaking of beer, have you ever tried Affligem? It is a Belgian that we tried when we were in Brugge, and can I just say it is DELISH?? Of course, it can be a little pricey, but I promise it is worth it! You have to get the Dubbel, it is awesome!

I'm with you on the beer. There's nothing like an ice cold one on a hot day or with just the right meal. My favorite darker is Newcastle Brown, and my favorite lighter is Bud Light with lime. So much handier than a Corona! ;)
