Jack Graduates Preschool

I was a bit nervous about going to Jack's preschool graduation. Part of me thought the whole idea was just plain silly. Do we really have to do the whole cap and gown bit? The song? The ceremony? The speeches? It just seemed a little over the top for a 4 year old.

However, once I saw my little man putting his pint-sized gown on my eyes teared up and I stepped 14 years into the future. It was like looking at my son at 18 years old and graduating high school. It was such a surreal moment in time, it's really hard to describe. My brain flashed back to his birth, his first birthday, his first ice cream cone. All of those moments in time are long gone. I just wanted to drink this hour in and never forget it.

This boy in red and blue is Jack's best preschool buddy, Alex. They would run to each other every morning and give big bear hugs. It was really sweet. Alex's father once witnessed one of these hugs and said after a split second of their hugging "Okay boys, that's enough". Ha! I snickered at the father under my breath. Men are so funny. Let the boys have their hug for Pete's sake. I'm sure it wont turn them....not that there's anything wrong with that!

While we (patiently) waited for the ceremony to start, Matt read Ava books and we people watched. I took lots of silly pictures. Ava danced in the aisle.

And come ceremony time, Jack and his classmates were well behaved. They sang us songs. In English and in Spanish. They counted. They danced. They were perfectly adorable.

And at the end of the party, I watched my boy walk by with a huge smile on his face and I almost had to look away. I couldn't believe that this was my child. That this little person came from my body, and his life depended on me. Wow. Parenting is huge. Sometimes I forget that. It's times like these that help me remember. I have a good life.

I'm so proud of my boy!
